Tips for moving out

If you’re based in Leeds you have probably witnessed or heard of the 30th June madness, when every student is moving out of their current house to then move onto the next place the following day on the 1st July.

It can be a very exciting but stressful 24hrs, that is where we come in with our tips on how to be organised to make the day as stress free as possible.

Step 1: Strat packing early!

When we say early, we don’t mean 2 or 3 days before the move, as early as the start of June is a good time to start. Whether that’s starting to pack up your winter clothes or some of your room decorations, every little bit helps in the long run. Before you know it you will be all packed and ready to go on June 30th.

Step 2: Work out what you’re doing with all your stuff

Whether this is hiring a van that you can load up on the day and keep it in overnight before your move in date, or hire local storage. If you’re hiring local storage it might be a good idea to hire it a week in advance so you can gradually move things over so that it is not a big rush at the end.

Step 3: Don’t take anything to your next house that you don’t need to

One of the best parts of having to pack up your whole life is that it gives you a chance to de-clutter. Maybe there’s a bundle of clothes that have been living in the back of your wardrobe that you haven’t missed, or you’ve just finished uni and now you have textbooks that you haven’t looked at since first year. You could give your old stuff to charity or post it on local student groups for others. It’s a great way to ensure you’re not taking too much rubbish to your next home.

If you follow these three easy steps, your moving process will be a lot smoother. Contact us at Silverspring Lettings for any more help!
